Pandemic Influenza Preparedness

Although the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) considers the risk to Americans from the H5N1 avian influenza virus is generally low to most people, it is important to be prepared should a pandemic (global) outbreak occur.

Here are some online sources of information for:

Act now for easy access to your money in an emergency.
Avoiding infection is one of the most important protective steps against any influenza virus. For most people, this will include ordinary measures, such as avoiding close contact with people who are ill with influenza or who show symptoms of respiratory illness. Regular hand-washing, avoiding
crowds, and remaining several feet away from people who are coughing are useful protective measures.

Take the following steps now to prepare for easy access to your money while minimizing your contact with people who might be infected:

• Open a checking account if you don’t already have one.
• Apply for a debit or ATM card.
• Set up direct deposit of your paycheck into your checking account.
• Register for home banking – it’s free.
• Sign up for eStatements.

Lottery Scams on the Rise
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

SECU cares about our members’ financial well-being.
We have become aware of a recent rash of lottery scams
sent through the mail. The scam works like this: you
receive a letter and a check. You are asked to cash the
check, keep a certain percentage of the money, and wire
back the remainder of the funds. In return, you receive a
promise of more checks to come. Beware! This is not a
legal or legitimate activity. If you receive such a letter,
report it to the post office immediately.

Has Your Contact Information Changed?

Please help us keep your records at SECU up to date by completing a change of address form. Forms are
located on our website at www.secuga.org. We’ll be glad to fax or mail a form to you if you are unable to
access the Internet.
